Awards

Each year at its fall conference the Communal Studies Association presents awards to individuals and organizations who have contributed to the field of communal studies. Not every award is presented each year. Members and the public are invited to recommend qualified persons.

Distinguished Scholar Award

This award honors those persons who have contributed greatly to the study of communal societies past and present.

Donald Durnbaugh Starting Scholar Award

This award is designed to encourage and recognize new authors in the field of communal studies.

Donald E. Pitzer Distinguished Service Award

This award recognizes those persons who have contributed greatly to the organization’s work and/or support of the field of communal studies.

Gina Walker Outstanding Project Award

This award is for non-print projects or other contributions generally attributed to multiple participants, completed within the previous two years.

Timothy Miller Outstanding Book Award

An award for a single published book, popular or scholarly.

Outstanding Publication Article Award

An award for a single published article, popular or scholarly.
